The Artis Orbis Collection was launched in Europe in the autumn of 1996 where it has grown to become a foundation of Goebel's European giftware business. Now, as the collection makes it way across the Atlantic, it will certainly win a place in the hearts and homes of American art lovers and connoisseurs of fine porcelain.
Each item in the Artis Orbis Collection is crafted of the finest porcelain and signed with the facsimile signature of the original artist to attest to the authenticity of its design. The painstaking production process begins with a critical review of each painting to determine the shapes and product forms that will best bring the artwork to life. Detailed photographs of the paintings are then studied and digitally enhanced to shape the artwork to the porcelain body and to allow for the loss of detail that takes place during the porcelain firing process. Color transfers or decals are then created and carefully scrutinized to ensure the colors match the original painting precisely.
The decals are then hand-cut and shaped to conform to each porcelain body. Depending upon the complexity of the design, up to six different decals may be applied by hand. The porcelain is then fired and finishing touches such as gold rims and hand-painted accents are added.
